2023年度回顾

基于去年年底的社群观察，为了应对社群里不断演变的需求和机遇，CSA在2023年上半年开启了一个新项目：每月组织能力建设工作坊。这些工作坊旨在加强在地小组的组织能力，支持新兴组织者在行动导向、工作计划、议程制定、协作、以及社群外展等相关领域的能力建设。尽管CSA是一个基于北美的中国学生与行动者网络，但我们的工作坊吸引了来自世界各地的参与者，变成了一个协作学习和技能发展的集聚平台。同时，CSA一直坚持开展回应当下社会议题的交流会，邀请身在一线的组织者和行动者来分享和讨论，涵盖的议题包括监狱废除与修复式正义，中美关系，校园残障倡导、巴勒斯坦问题等。这些对话会旨在帮助拓宽中国（留）学生和行动者对互相关联的社会正义问题的进一步理解和促进不同社区之间的连结。

然而，我们也观察到随着社群伙伴对安全保障的担忧提升，留学生的身份问题不确定、流动性大，组织者开展社群活动愈发困难，讨论空间也呈两极分化的趋势。许多人表达了对更加安全的活动空间的渴望，以便进行复杂多元的公共议题讨论。回应社区的需求和担忧，CSA积极调整了我们的今年项目：在暑期，我们邀请了不同社群的组织者一起来参加对社群活动开展的反思和规划的周末讨论会。此外，在2023年下半年，我们也陆续开展了规模较小的线下活动、行动营以及涉及复杂议题的深度研讨会。活动的参与者对这些人数相对更少、议题讨论更深入而具体的项目给予了积极的反馈。

2024规划分享

展望2024年，CSA致力于继续建设中国留学生和行动者中的领导力和连结。我们计划与不同地区的在地小组/社群合作，量身定制行动营和研讨会，以更好地回应当地的社会议题和社群需求。如果你的小组/社群有兴趣，请与我们联系。

2022暑期，我们在纽约聚集了100多名中国留学生和行动者，一起来思考和探索我们在社会正义运动中的跨国视角和行动。两年后，我们很高兴地宣布，CSA将在2024年夏天举办我们的第二届线下集会，继续与青年行动者来交流和探索海外社会正义导向的社群建设和发展。希望届时能够见到更多的新老朋友。

2023 Recap

As we bid farewell to 2023, it's a momentous time to reflect on the journeys we've undertaken together this year. 

In response to the evolving needs and opportunities that unfolded at the close of last year, CSA launched a new program for the first half of 2023: Monthly Organizing Capacity Building Workshops. These sessions aimed to strengthen the capabilities of local groups, supporting emerging organizers in crucial areas such as organizing orientation, work planning, agenda setting, facilitation, and community outreach. Despite being a US-based activist network, our workshops attracted participants from around the world, transforming into a collaborative hub for learning and skill development. Concurrently, CSA maintained its commitment to hosting timely political conversations with front-line organizers and activists. These dialogues played an informative role in broadening our collective understanding of interconnected social justice issues and fostering solidarity across diverse communities (Please see the 2023 survey link below for the full list of CSA events in 2023).

However, we've also observed a growing polarization within our communities, accompanied by heightened concerns around safety and security. Many express a desire for safer spaces where nuanced political discussions can flourish. Recognizing this, CSA has proactively adjusted our programs to meet the needs and concerns of our communities. We convened organizers for a summer retreat, providing a dedicated space for reflection and strategizing. Additionally, in the latter half of 2023, we hosted smaller-sized in-person events, action camps, and teach-ins on challenging topics. Participants and groups reported affirming feedback for these grounded and in-depth programs.

2024 Planning

Looking ahead to 2024, CSA is committed to continually building leadership and relationships among Chinese international students and activists. We plan to collaborate closely with local groups, tailoring action camps and workshops to better suit specific needs and local contexts. In 2022, we brought together over 100 Chinese international students and activists in NYC, exploring and harnessing the strength of our transnational perspectives in social justice movements. Two years later, we're thrilled to announce the plan for our second convening in the summer of 2024, to further chart the path for interconnected and interdependent social justice movements.
